The best robot vacuums in 2020

A small smart machine may be exactly the thing you need to keep your flat clean. That is exactly what a robotic vacuum is intended to do. It will intelligently hunt through your house for dirt and dust and remove them.

Some may think a robot vacuum cleaner is more like a toy, than a real assistant, but that is not true. A robot can be a great helper, especially as today they are becoming more and more smart and quick at doing their work. The accumulators are stronger than ever, as are the motors. The AI is also getting better, and the sensors are making these machines more aware of their surroundings.

But the robots are also getting more varied and numerous. Right now there are thousands of models from tens of brands. That would make it difficult to choose one, but we have provided a list of five best ones. Even if you do not buy one of these listed here, you will at least know what to look for to find a good robot.

The system is good at removing dust and also loosening dirt from the floor. It also works well on carpets and can get up hair.

The two brushes aid each other in lifting up dust and small debris. The cleaning head adjusts its position to remove dirt more efficiently. That way the robot adapts to floor or carpet.

The Roomba is improved by a Dirt-Detection system, which allows it to find the dirtiest areas of the house and concentrate on them. The sensors in this model are quite intelligent, and they also guide the robot under furniture, so that no area is left uncleaned.

The Edge Sweeping Brush allows the robot to sweep at an angle in order to drive  debris away from corners and edges, like baseboard.

The robot integrates with smart assistants like Alexa or Google. This lets you use voice commands with it. The robot uses Wi-Fi to connect to the smartphone

The accumulator lasts for 90 minutes of cleaning. After this the robot returns to its station and recharges. The charging station ships with the robot.

Pros:

  • Removes allergens from air
  • Works for a long time
  • Is good at getting under furniture

Cons:

  • The AI is not that good – works great occasionally, and sometimes misses entire rooms

The model is equipped with three brushes, of which two sweep the sides and one main one sweeps the middle. The robot can quickly sweep a whole flat or can concentrate on a defined area. Also can be programmed to work on the edges of a room.

The integration with Alexa or Google allows you to use voice controls with the robot. The Smart applications allows you to make a defined plan for the robot to follow day-to-day. You can control it directly through the app as well.

If the robot detects an uncleanable mess, it increases the suction power twofold and attempts cleaning again.

The voluminous battery gives the machine a total runtime of 110 minutes. The robot will always return to its station when it runs out of energy. You will not have to return it manually.

The multiple sensors help it evade such common problems as collisions or falling from a precipice. When the robot connects to a smartphone, it will download official updates for the software. The surface is resistant to scratches, so the robot will always look new. Its big wheels help it climb over thresholds.

The robot ships with two filters and 4 replacement brushes.

Pros:

  • Simple to set up to work
  • Affordable
  • Quiet

Cons:

  • This model is adept at getting stuck in cracks, as a number of reviews say.

The model is easy to integrate with a phone, by using Wi-Fi and the native eufy App. The vacuum can use both Alexa and Google to connect to the phone.

This one is unusually slim, with a height of 2.85 inches. However its motor crates a powerful suction of 1500 Pa.

Worry-Free Cleaning: Set Boundary Strips and the robotic vacuum cleaner’s slim 2.85” body with—upgraded to 1500Pa* suction—only cleans the areas you want. This motor is powerful, yet it is very quiet.  When the device comes across a particularly messy spot, it turns up the power in the span of 1.5 seconds.

The accumulator allows for  up to 100 minutes of uninterrupted work. The vacuum can be directly controlled through a remote, which is powered by two triple-A batteries. The cleaner ships with 13 feet of boundary strip. Also you receive 4 brushes and a cleaning tool.

Pros:

  • Very slim
  • Very quiet
  • Works well on carpets

Cons:

  • The movement is very random

The manufacturer boats an improved Ai, which will solve the problem with bumping and random movement. The set of 13 different types of sensors is quite impressive, and each does its part in helping the robot navigate its space. It senses falls, uneven surfaces and obstacles and can even decide for itself when it would be better to charge. Overall the sensors aid in avoiding entrapment.

Another great point is the accumulator. Its volume is 5200 mAh and the robot can work 150 minutes on one charge. All the dirt fits into a voluminous dustbin, so it is possible to clean even a big house with one single charge.

The motor generates 2000 Pa of pressure. This is plenty enough to pull even the most resilient dust off the floor. Also such a strong suction is vital to removing dirt from a carpet.

The robot also has a small mop with water, which too removes dirt. Therefore it leaves behind itself a shining clean floor. The work of the mop is even, so there will be no pooling of leftover water.

The vacuum has a wireless adapter, so it is possible to directly control it using the app through a smartphone. You can customize existing programs and order the vacuum to go charge.

Pros:

  • Great for removing dog hair
  • Powerful suction
  • Good battery life

Cons:

  • Some people did not like the app

This is not as much a vacuum as a mop. It is, however, very effective at cleaning any kind of dirt. It also works great at fighting stains.

The square shape allows this machine to get into places that other vacuum cleaners could not reach. That would be corners, spaces around furniture and under furniture. The efficient pattern allows it to clean without wasting energy.

You can select from three different modes – dry, damp and wet. This robot is an ideal choice for a kitchen or toilet – it works best on tile or hardwood. The small nozzle on the front of the robot sprays water for the mop to rub on the floor. It is possible to add aroma to the water, and then the robot will spread a nice smell while it cleans.

There is a simple button mechanism for ejecting the cleaning pad. It allows you to remove it without touching dirt with your hands. A battery charger, 2 pads for mopping and 4 pads for sweeping come with the device.

Pros:

  • Square design
  • Mopping mechanism
  • Great against stains

Cons:

  • In a dry climate it uses up the water really soon
